Introduction

Al-Qasim Green University is committed to creating a friendly and inclusive environment for all students, staff, and visitors. This allows students and staff with disabilities to contribute their full potential to university life. This policy sets the arrangements and reasonable adjustments for students and staff with disabilities. This policy encompasses all areas of university life, including education, employment, extracurricular activities, and physical access to university buildings. .

Objectives

  • To ensure equal access to education, services, and employment for individuals with disabilities.
  • To declare the commitment of the university to the provision of reasonable adjustments for students and staff with disabilities.
  • To provide an environment where all can thrive regardless of their physical or mental abilities.
  • Scope

    For the purpose of this policy, "disability" includes but is not limited to physical, sensory, intellectual, and mental health impairments. The definition of disability by the university include but is not limited to:

  • Mobility impairments.

  • Visual impairments.

  • Hearing impairments.

  • Learning disabilities.

  • Mental health conditions.

  • Chronic illnesses.

  • Neurodivergent conditions (for instance, Autism Spectrum Disorder).

  • University Administration and Leadership: Making certain that all work, academic, and physical spaces are accessible to the full extent.
  • Faculty and Staff: All staff members must provide for inclusion and ensure that suitable and timely adjustments are made in accordance.
  • Reasonable Adjustments and Provisions.

    Al-Qasim Green University will make reasonable adjustments for disabled students and staff. These may include, but are not limited to:
    5.1. Academic Adjustments
    • Extended exam time: For students with conditions that affect concentration, learning, or physical ability.
    • Different exam arrangements: For students with impaired vision or hearing, or with specific learning disabilities.
    • Note-takers or audio recording: For students who cannot take notes due to mobility impairments or learning disabilities.
    • Sign Language interpreters: For students with hearing impairments.
    • Alternative online or digital formats: For visually impaired students or students with learning disabilities.
    • Adjustable deadlines: For students with mental health conditions or chronic illnesses.
    • Assistive technologies: For instance, screen readers, magnifiers, or voice recognition software.
    5.2. Physical Access Adjustments
    • Accessible entrances and exits: For mobility-impaired students and staff.
    • Elevators and ramps: To offer easy access to all the buildings.
    • Accessible toilets: For mobility-impaired people.
    • Accessible classrooms and meeting rooms: That support proper seating and mobility access.
    • Signage: Plain and conspicuous signs that identify accessible facilities, restrooms, and emergency exits.
    5.3. Employment Adjustments
    • Flexible working hours: For employees with disabilities who require adjustments to their working hours or arrangements.
    • Ergonomic workstations: For physically disabled employees.
    • Telecommuting arrangements: For employees with disability-related problems that need to work from home.
    • Professional development assistance: Allowing employees with disabilities equal opportunities for training and professional growth.
    5.4. Extracurricular and Campus Life Adjustments
    • Accessible campus events: Offering events at accessible venues and providing accommodations such as sign language interpretation or assistive listening devices.
    • Transportation services: Provides convenient campus transportation for mobility-impaired staff and students.
    By the implementation of this policy, Al-Qasim Green University aims to ensure that all its students and employees, regardless of disability, are given the support and accommodation needed for academic, work, and social achievement.
